Simple Ways to Recover Your Lost WordPress Password Using phpMyAdmin

Yes, it many times happens that we forget our passwords, as today’s life is very busy and we need to remember lot many issues in our mind along with lot many passwords. And its a common human nature to get tensed once lost the password. Here is a solution for you, if you have lost your WordPress password. However the solution is a standard solution that may be very well known to many of you, but those who are unaware must keep on reading and get the solution easily without worrying about anything.

Here are some simple steps that must be followed by you when you forgot or lost your password :

Step 1:
Go to the login page for your dashboard and then click on the link “Lost Your Password” as shown below -

Step 2:
After clicking on this link, you will be asked to enter your username or your email id , and to get your new password, as shown below -

Step 3:
Once you click on the “Get New Password” button you will be instructed to check your mail id for the new password.

Step 4:
Now you need to check your id, where you will get the confirmation about the URL of your site and a message that will tell you that someone requested to change the password, if it is by mistake then just ignore it and nothing will be happening, otherwise click on the link. After reading this message you need to click on the new link that is being mentioned in the mail, you will be allowed to set your new password.

Step 5:
Once you get your new password, you need to enter the username along with the new password in the WordPress login area and there you will find a strength indicator that will help you to know the strength of your password, no doubt it will allow you to set a weak password too but it is strongly recommended to use a strong password that is not easy to be hacked or guessed.

Step 6:
Now when you click on the “Reset Password” button you will get a new message that your password is reset and now you can login, the future step of yours should be to enter the dashboard with your user name and the new password and that’s it.

So that was all about how to handle the situation when you forgot or lost your WordPress Password.

However I would personally suggest that if you are using your own device to operate and handle your WordPress site then it is always good to check the ” remember me” box in the login area that will never make you to remember your password every time you login into your site. It remembers your password and automatically takes the username and password by default as you type the URL of your login page, as shown in the image below -

The issue is simple to be resolved but it becomes hectic when you forget your username or email id, then in that case how to recover your lost password?

This article is summed up with its solution too but for it you must have access to phpMyAdmin and its databases. Here are some simple steps to get rid out of that problem -

Altering Username & Password through phpMyAdmin in WordPress incase you forgot the email too:

Step 1:
Login into your server admin account and enter phpMyAdmin then click databases, a lot of databases will be displayed among which choose and click your WordPress database, as shown in the image below

Step 2:
Once you clicked on your database you will get a list in your database that will contain wp_users, wp_metadata, wp_posts, wp_links etc. In the list select wp_users and click on the browse button at the right side as shown in the image below

Step 3:
When you click on the browse button you will get a new screen that will provide you an option to edit your profile i.e. Username and email id etc.

Step 4:
You can now easily change the username and email id and also set the new password. After setting the password you have to select MD5 function for the password field and that’s it.

Step 5:
After completion of the required alteration now you need to click the “Go” button that will save your settings.
