Blogging is always fun, atleast for me as it offers an opportunity to share my views and opinions on various aspects online & offline. With increasing impact of digitization on everyone’s life there is no denying the fact that we are becoming more web oriented. Among this crowd of internet users, there is a cadre of head strong individuals who are known as bloggers. I couldn’t imagine what modern web will look like if there was be no bloggers, no one raising concerns over a company’s monopoly, no evangelism of amazing products/services, no word as “Editorial Links”.
In simple terms, blogging is about expressing your self and starting a free flow of thoughts. It gives you a voice on internet with which you can posses the right of being heard. But there are several myths which usually creates hurdles for people who are willing or atleast wishing to start their own blog. Today, I’m going to shatter some of these myths by presenting actual scenarios, hopefully this will encourage you to start blogging (if you are not doing already)
#1: I need a great blog designDead Wrong! If you are ready to express yourself and write good content which would actually add value to existing pile of internet information, then even a simple blog design will be enough.
Furthermore, what’s wrong with a basic WordPress theme, you can still have all the features you would ever require. When I was planning to start my personal blog, I researched for and implemented 40+ blog themes and finally selected Twenty Twelve free WordPress theme. It’s free, easily customizable and responsive, I mean what else do you need! If you don’t like the basic WordPress theme, there are several other free WordPress blog theses available online, choose one and start your blog today.
#2. I Have to Post Every Day to Be SuccessfulThat is so not true! It is not important how many posts you write each day, what matters is how much useful information you share with your readers. Without value addition, there is no sense of publishing invaluable 2-3 posts each day. Much like most of renowned bloggers, I believe quality triumphs quantity. On top of that, consistency is the most important aspect of any blogger’s success. If you would like to be successful online, define a publishing schedule and stick to it. It doesn’t matter how many posts you publish each day, consistency of doing it is what’s most important. So, if you publish 1 post daily, weekly, or even monthly, do it with consistency.
#3. I Have to Be a Great WriterNo, you most certainly don’t. As long as you are able to express your thoughts in words you will be in a pretty good shape. You don’t have to be a brilliant writer or an expert researcher to start your blog. All you need is a strong will and ability to identify topics on which you can write a detailed post.
Almost 4 years earlier, I never though I could ever write a blog post, but as it turned out I’ve put an end to my hesitation and have started to blog without worrying about critical response. I’ve a lot of things to learn about writing but I’m proud of at least starting to write which is the first and the most difficult step to take. Furthermore, writing involves a lot of practice and if you write constantly, you will be improving over time.
#4. No One will read my blogThis is the worst fear of any amateur blogger. Though, I believe that with proper efforts and a streamlined approach anyone can make a successful blog, the reason I started my personal blog is to have a memoirs for myself. I know this sounds crazy, but doing this will save me from nervous breakdown as even if no one reads my posts, I will have those posts for me to refer in future and learn things from the past. Having this approach gives the satisfaction that I’m doing what makes me happy, people reading and liking my posts are only byproducts.
#5. Blogging Takes Too Much TimeYes, it takes some time at the start to setup a blog and get it rolling initially. But believe me, if you are writing a blog because you love it, you will definitely love writing it. You have started your blog and you got a hint of positive response, all you need then is a little more than a couple of hours per week. Even after your hectic schedule, you will have these hours, don’t you?
Conclusion:You see, there are several ideas and random thoughts of people which without blogging will always be stuck in their mind and they don’t do anything about it. Blogging gives an ideal platform to express your thoughts and let the world know about them (not the stale ones). I’ve tried to clarify the basic doubts that a novice has in mind about blogging. So what other myths do you have?
