I have seen a lot of programmers and bloggers who usually post codes in their WordPress blog posts. Usually they post their code as a simple text so readers find it hard to distinguish between the code lines and normal post’s lines. It’s a better idea to highlight code portion so that readers can easily get the code portion on first sight. For WordPress users it is very easy to implement this through a plugin named “WP-synhighlight”. I have tested this plugin in WordPress 3.3.1 and it worked fine for me. Lets see how you can use this plugin to show code snippet as a ‘highlighted code block’ in WordPress blog posts.
First of all download this plugin by Clicking here. Install this plugin from admin panel of your WordPress blog. After successful installation this plugin will add a new button in your WordPress post editor so you can easily highlight your code using this button.
You will see some settings when you click on WP-synhighlight button:
Set these settings as per your need and go to “Code to Paste ”, here you can paste the code that you want to highlight in your post.
Then simple press “insert”. You are almost done, isn’t it really easy? After publishing your post go to your website and have a look at your post, you will find a good looking code block there. Here is a sample page with ColorWay theme installed:
WP-synhighlight offers you more settings that you can use to change “Code block title” , default line number etc. Go to “Setting” option in your WP dashboard and there you will find WP-synhighlight.
